A Beautiful Classic Baratta Home

Here's another beautiful Baratta home........this one is very traditional and classic in design, as you will see.

The last time I posted a Baratta home (here), it was a classic coastal home, but this home is designed for a large family of three generations and lots of pets who love to gather at this home on a bay just a half hour from Manhattan.

With a mix of toiles, ginghams, chintz, ticking, needlepoint rugs, wicker and beadboard, and the usual attention to detail that Diamond and Baratta subscribe to, the home is a wonderful haven that anyone would be proud to call home.

Enjoy!

Look at the backyard overlooking the bay.

The pink toile upholstery is a beautiful complement to the panelled walls.

Love pretty rooms!

Romantic Bedrooms of Mario Buatta

Before leaving Mario (at least for a little while), I thought I would share some of his romantic bedrooms.

As you will see, Mario's trademark details are canopy beds, coronas, benches at the foot of the bed and of course, his beloved chintz!

There's no doubt, he is the master of color, design and detail, and his ability to come up with original schemes seems limitless.  In an interview with New York Social Diary, Buatta mentioned that he never does a room plan - he simply produces these rooms outright - which means he is also a master of visualization!

I know I've shown some of these rooms before, but some comprise his lastest work and all are beautiful and always a pleasure to peruse........and perhaps even allow a woman to dream a little!

Enjoy!

A Betsy Schmidt Kitchen

Hi Everyone!

Here is a kitchen I saw in a magazine a few years ago and it is one of those unforgettable images........it's a very striking design and when you see the pictures, you will see what I mean.

The designer, Betsy Schmidt, of Cincinnati, is a designer after my own heart.........she loves color!!!  Pinks, greens, blues, yellows, red......whatever!  And she has a fabulous eye for working them all together!
This is her own remodelled, 80-year old kitchen in which she has blended raspberry toile, periwinkle chintz on the bar stools, blue and white delft backsplash tiles, lime green floor tiles as well as blue and white gingham with roses decoupaged onto the buffet drawers.

She is able to accommodate all that color beautifully by adding large doses of white in the cabinetry, ceiling and woodwork.  She has also mixed the metals beautifully with brass cabinetry hardware, brushed nickel faucets and stainless steel appliances.

Two sinks, two refrigerator drawers, two dishwashers and a wet bar make an irresistible kitchen for entertaining and for guests who can't seem to pull themselves away from it all!

Enjoy!!

I was hoping to offer you more photos of this kitchen, but I'm unable to at this time........to see more of her work, check out elizabethschmidtinteriordesign.com............her colors are wonderful!

American Coastal Retreat

In keeping with our international cottage and country decorating theme, I am today featuring the summer home of Galen and Hilary Weston, who are the owners of Canada's Loblaws Grocers, Atlantic Superstores, Holt Renfew in Toronto and Selfridge's in London, to name a few of their retail establishments.  Galen was named by Forbes magazine this year as the second wealthiest person in Canada with an estimated fortune of $7.1 billion.  Understandably, this is not a 'typical' coastal retreat......this is something only the very, very wealthy would have access to, so it is definitely worth a peek!

Galen began his career as a bag boy in his family's bakery business and through hard work, education and determination salvaged the floundering company in the 1970s and went on from there.

So, when their latest home appeared in AD this week, I was fascinated.  It was built in their own community in Florida which was developed in the 90s called Windsor 'A Village by the Sea' ....... and the interiors were designed by John Stefanidis, who has worked with them on several of their other homes.

Enjoy!
